Field Work

Explore Nova Scotia and gain hands on experience

Field trips are an integral part of the Integrated Science program. You will learn field techniques, work in small groups to collect data, learn to identify common organisms, and perhaps most importantly, gain an understanding of and appreciation for the diversity of local ecosystems and landscapes.

Community members across the country identify as many living organisms as possible on a single day.

Day Trips
You will go on day trips to a variety of local ecosystems, from the rocky intertidal, to coastal sand dunes, to bogs and barrens. At each location you will collect data, using field techniques appropriate to that habitat type, and familiarize yourself with the organisms and topography of the site. Later you will analyse the data collected and apply statistical and computer techniques to gain a better understanding of the various ecosystems. Example of day trips include visits to the Point Pleasant Park coastal forest, Cranberry Cove rocky intertidal, and Conrad's Beach coastal dunes.
