Clubs and Student Societies

The Department of Earth and Environmental Sciences has several student societies. They are active in planning social events, fundraisers, campus activism, and trips to conferences. The societies create an energetic community where diverse personalities and interests thrive. It is a chance for students to get involved in the university and community, as well as to become familiar with one another and faculty.

Dawson Geology Club

The Dawson Geology Club was named after Sir William Dawson , who as a young man assisted one of the fathers of Geology, Sir Charles Lyell, during his field investigations in Nova Scotia in 1842. William Dawson, who was described in 1843 as "a very excellent geologist" by Mr. Logan (of famous Mount Logan), became Principal of McGill University in 1855, and his son, George Dawson, became Director of the Geological Survey of Canada.

Environmental Science Program Student Society (EPSS)

The Environmental Science Program Student Society (EPSS) works to create networking opportunities for students in Environmental Programs, help students communicate with faculty, and organize fun and informative events promoting sustainability and environmentally-conscious behaviours. EPSS also aims to help students find employment and community involvement opportunities by coordinating trips to conferences, summits and workshops.

EPSS members have many projects on the go, anywhere from fund-raising to exploring campus sustainability projects and working with other environmental groups on campus. They are active in planning social events, intramural sports, fundraisers, campus activism, and trips to environmental conferences.
