DalSymphony, Conducted by Dr. Leonardo Perez

Dec. 3, 7:30pm
Joseph Strug Concert Hall

DalSymphony presents a concert of music inspired by Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet. Featuring some of the most well-known and beloved works for orchestra by Prokofiev, Bernstein, Beethoven and Tchaikovsky.

Sergei Prokofiev's ballet Romeo and Juliet opens the evening’s program, from his Suite no. 2 for orchestra with his characteristic colourful and brooding music representing characters and scenes from the play. This is followed by Leonard Bernstein's ever-popular Symphonic Dances from West Side Story, the modern retelling of Romeo and Juliet set in the mid-1950s in the Upper West Side of Manhattan. After a heartfelt slow movement from Beethoven's String Quartet no. 1 arranged for string orchestra, Tchaikovsky's masterful Romeo and Juliet Fantasy Overture concludes the program. Come experience the wealth of stirring music inspired by the love story and tragedy of Romeo and Juliet!
