The Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council (SSHRC) is the federal agency that promotes and supports postsecondary-based research and training in the humanities and social sciences.

SSHRC funding opportunities to faculty are available through two general programs: and . Under these headings, are the following grants: Insight Grants, Insight Development Grants, Partnership Grants, Partnership Development Grants, and Connection Grants.

There are also various other programs, such as occasional Knowledge Synthesis Grants and other federal programs, such as the new mega-grants in the New Frontiers in Research Fund.
