Mohini Mathur Memorial Bursary in Indian Studies
This bursary was established by family members in memory of Mrs. Mohini Mathur, a former ºÚÁϳԹÏÍøstudent with a passion for lifelong learning, to celebrate her interests in Indian philosophy, Hindu religion, Indian culture, literature and languages.
This bursary will be awarded to a student with a sincere and demonstrated interest in pursuing the study of Indian thought and ideas, these can include (but are not limited to) Indian philosophical systems, Hinduism or any branch of Hindu Religion, the Sanskrit language, Indian literature, or other traditions of India's intellectual heritage.
India is the home of a rich and diverse heritage of philosophical and intellectual thought. This bursary promotes the study of Indian philosophical systems broadly defined as those systems of thought and intellectual culture emerging from the Indian subcontinent. This bursary supports the study of India's scholastic heritage as manifest in the philosophical, religious and cultural traditions of India.
Applications for this bursary are open to any undergraduate (BA) or graduate level (MA or PhD) student registered as a ºÚÁϳԹÏÍø Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences student.
The successful candidate(s) for this bursary will also have demonstrated financial need and will have achieved satisfactory academic standing.Â
To apply for this award, students must submit:
1)     A one - two page (maximum) letter of application (double-spaced, 12 pt font) to the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences Dean’s Office, Attention Mohini Mathur Memorial Bursary Committee, no later than 4:30 pm AST February 24, 2025 demonstrating their interest in this field of study. The letter should provide an overview of how the applicant fulfills the criteria for the bursary and should also include references to one or more of the following: relevant courses completed in the area of Indian Studies; brief summaries of relevant essays, undergraduate research projects or honours research plans; graduate courses and/or research plans, etc. Please send your letter of application to fassnews@dal.ca .
2)   Undergraduate students must also submit a ºÚÁϳԹÏÍøbursary application following the process outlined by ºÚÁϳԹÏÍø’s Bursary Program (important - please check bursary program application deadlines on the bursary program website). Graduate students must provide with their letter of application an indication of financial need that provides information on extenuating financial circumstances, any external funding, and timeline to completion of your degree.
Applications will be evaluated by an awards committee. Priority will normally be given to students that have not previously received this bursary. Successful recipients of the bursary will be requested to write a letter of thanks to the donors or their successors. Â Â
The amount of this bursary for the 2024-25 academic year is $1000.
