Department Chair, and Associate/Full Professor
The Faculty of Agriculture invites applications for a full-time (1.0 FTE) appointment as Department Chair, and tenured Associate Professor or Full Professor (dependent upon qualifications and expertise). The preferred starting date is June 1, 2018. The Department Chair position is for an initial term of 5 years, with potential for a second term. The Department is conducting an external search for a dynamic leader with a well-established research program, and strategic vision to enhance and manage the academic affairs of a vibrant Department. The successful applicant will lead in developing a strategic plan for the department, which must align with strategic plans of the larger University and at the Faculty of Agriculture.
The Department of Business and Social Sciences is one of four departments in the Faculty of Agriculture. The Department has nationally recognized unique strengths in education and research in agribusiness, and agricultural and applied economics. The expertise of faculty members of the Department is spread across three academic sub-areas, namely: Agricultural Business; Agricultural Economics; and a third area capturing Humanities and Social Sciences. The Department offers programs at the diploma, undergraduate, and graduate levels, as well as various “service” courses to support other programs offered at the ϳԹAgricultural Campus. Academic programs in the Department combine and integrate core disciplines in agricultural sciences with business management, economics and innovation. Thus, demonstrated ability to work in a collegial and interdisciplinary environment is preferred. Information about the faculty of agriculture and its programs may be found at: .
Responsibilities: The Department Chair will provide visionary leadership to help accomplish mandates in effective teaching and learning, research, and service/outreach. The Chair will provide a clear vision for the department, with ability to recognize and act on opportunities, and develop innovative and creative plans to make effective and efficient use of both human and financial resources. The Chair will also be expected to teach at a reduced teaching load.
Qualifications: Applicants must: i) have a Ph.D. in Agricultural Business, Agricultural Economics, or a relevant social sciences field with expertise in AgriFood studies; ii) be a tenured faculty member at the Associate Professor or Full Professor level; and iii) show evidence of efficient human resource and financial management. Applicants outside academia with equivalent qualifications (which must include an active and relevant research program) and eligibility for a tenured appointment are encouraged to apply. In addition, applicants must have demonstrated university teaching experience. Applicants must also have evidence of collaboration and service/outreach with agricultural industry partners.

Assistant or Associate Professor in Food & Agribusiness Entrepreneurship
The Faculty of Agriculture invites applications for a probationary tenure-track or tenure track appointment in Food & Agribusiness Entrepreneurship at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor (dependent upon qualifications and expertise) commencing July 1, 2018. The Department of Business and Social Sciences is one of four departments in the Faculty of Agriculture. The Department has a nationally recognized unique strength in agribusiness education and research, as well as education and research in applied and agricultural economics. Agriculture in today's world is an interesting and challenging industry where you can have a real impact. Our unique programs combine the core disciplines of agricultural sciences with business management and innovative technology. Applicants must have
i) a Ph.D in agribusiness with strong research or application in food and agribusiness entrepreneurship from an accredited and recognized university. ABDs may also be considered; and,
ii) Peer-reviewed publications relevant to food and agribusiness entrepreneurship, or in the case of an ABD or a recent PhD candidate, demonstrated capacity to produce such publications.
The successful applicant will develop and teach courses in food and agribusiness entrepreneurship, business and financial management at the diploma, undergraduate and graduate levels. In addition, the successful candidate will engage with the Faculty of Agriculture’s Cultiv8 entrepreneurship program.
They will be expected to carry out research dealing with entrepreneurship with direct relevance to the food and agribusiness sector and publish in high quality scholarly journals. Attracting and maintaining research funding is required. Building strong research and outreach connections with the food and agricultural industry both from a teaching and research standpoint will be essential.
