A message from Provost and Vice-President Academic Frank Harvey...
Thank you all for your support and patience as we worked through the appointment process for the Acting Dean & Principal position. As you all know this was a different process than has been used for such appointments to date, and the call for expressions of interest elicited applications from a very strong pool of potential candidates.
I am very pleased to announce that Dr. Gefu Wang-Pruski will commence a one-year term as Acting Dean and Principal, Faculty of Agriculture effective October 30, 2023.Â
Dr. Wang-Pruski is currently the Chair of the Plant, Food, and Environmental Sciences department within the Faculty of Agriculture, a Professor who has been a member of the Faculty since 1999. Dr. Wang-Pruski was also Dean of Overseas Education College, Fujian Agriculture and Forestry University (FAFU) in China for three years. A well-known potato scientist within North America, her research interests involve agriculture, agri-food, and potato breeding and genomics. She was awarded a Research Excellence Award in 2008, from then Nova Scotia Agricultural College. Dr. Wang-Pruski holds a B.Sc. in Biology from Nan Kai University, China and a Ph.D. in Plant Molecular Biology from the University of Alberta. Please join me in congratulating her on her appointment.
Dr. Wang-Pruski will work with the department of Plant, Food, and Environmental Sciences in the coming days to confirm an acting chair while she is serving as Acting Dean and Principal.Â
Finally, I want to again extend my gratitude to Dr. David Gray for his exceptional service as Dean and Principal over the last 10 years and wish him enormous success in his new role as Provost and Vice-President Academic of the University of Niagara Falls Canada.
Sincerely,
Frank Harvey
