In 2019, the first Workplace Wellness Grants were distributed to nine projects. This is the first in a series of updates on the projects and their activities and results. The COVID-19 pandemic impacted their ability to implement their plans and we appreciate the efforts of all those involved.
The Agricultural Campus held numerous events to rebuild campus spirit, including Boots 'N' Blooms, a Halloween costume party, pumpkin carving contest, fitness classes, Dean's holiday reception and the unveiling of the final design plan for the reconstruction of the Cox Institute that was severely damaged in a fire in 2018. They had 240 people participate, representing a large portion of their 380-member campus population. The Wellness Committee continues planning for the future.
The Faculty of Dentistry provided yoga classes on-site for three months in 2019. Feedback from the student, staff and faculty participants was positive. Participation rates, though, with a high of 11 and a low of three, was lower than expected.
The Centre for Collaborative Clinical Learning and Research (C3LR) undertook a Summer of Wellness project to make use of their underutilized outdoor terrace space in the Collaborative Health Education Building (CHEB). They purchased exercise equipment, planted herbs and vegetables, held group games and activities, and had a dietitian help them prepare a healthy meal with the items they had grown. The use of the terraced increased and the feedback gathered about their efforts activities was very positive.
