POSITION:Ìý Teaching Assistants-PHYT 6108.12: Integrated Practice in Acute, Rehabilitation and Home/Community Settings [Winter term, Feb 18th – May 8th] – 4 X 110-hours Positions Available

DEPARTMENT/LOCATION:Ìý School of Physiotherapy, Faculty of Health (Carleton Campus)

PAY RATE:Ìý According to the CUPE Agreement

WORK ASSIGNMENT:Ìý As a Tutorial Facilitator, you will facilitate small group (~8 students) discussions on patient cases related to the weekly theme of the course. This is a component of a 12 credit hour course (PHYT 6108) mandatory for our senior year students in their final year of the program.

Duties include, but are not limited to:

Act as a Tutorial Facilitator for 12 three-part, back-to-back tutorials (1.5hrs x 2 sessions Mondays, 1.5hrs x 2 sessions Wednesdays, and 1hr x 2 sessions Fridays), for a total of 8 hours of tutorials per week.Ìý Components of the work assignment may include:
Attendance of Tutorial Facilitator orientation session (1 hr prior to Feb 19th, date TBD).
Attendance of weekly Tutorial Facilitator preparation sessions Fridays 12:00-12:30pm.
Preparation in advance for each tutorial and to be knowledgeable about the content principals provided in the facilitator notes.Ìý Facilitators are not considered to be experts in content areas.
During tutorials, create a motivating, time sensitive environment to guide the students in their case-based discussions.Ìý Monitor the students' exploration of the assigned objectives for each tutorial utilizing questions effectively while managing group dynamics. Guide students in their revolving roles as group leader, word finder, recorder, and the expectation that every student comes prepared to share their discovery about the weekly case.
Promote a professional environment for safe and effective student learning. The Facilitator may be required to assist in conflict-resolution in the event that interpersonal conflict is interfering with student(s) meeting the tutorial objectives.
Complete a mid-term and final Tutorial Evaluation Rubric for each student.
Other duties, as required (i.e. exam invigilating).

Tutorial Dates and topics:
Tutorials will run from Wed Feb 19th until Friday May 8th, with hours as follows:

Mondays 1:35-2:50pm and 3:10-4:25pm

Wednesdays 1:45-3:15pm and 3:45-5:15pm

Fridays 11:15am-12:30pm and 12:30-1:00pm
Please note, the Friday 12:30-1:00pm session is a Tutorial Facilitator prep session for the following week's content with the Tutorial author.
Weekly topics may include: Rheumatology, Obesity, Diabetes, Seniors Health, Dizziness, Episodic Illness, Pelvic Health, Pediatrics, Amputations, Peripheral Neuromuscular Disease, Thermal Injuries, and Injuries involving the Workers Compensation Board.

REQUIREMENTS OF POSITION: The Teaching Assistant must be a graduate student at ºÚÁϳԹÏÍø. Good interpersonal skills required to work with groups of students or for one-on-one interaction. Strong communication skills, a positive attitude toward students, fairness in evaluation and grading, flexibility in approaches to teaching. A background in the general area of healthcare, and experience and familiarity with group dynamics in their work or study, is an asset. Ìý
