POSITION: Tutorial Coordinator for SUST 2000.06 – Local Governance, Citizen Engagement & Sustainability. FALL TERM 2018

LENGTH OF POSITION: 27 August, 2018 to 17 December, 2018 (16 weeks)

PAY RATE: $25.00 per hour, 10 hours per week (average), 160 hours total.
SUST 2000 - Local Governance, Citizen Engagement & Sustainability.
The course explores the connections between people, their actions, and the complex issues associated with environmental and social sustainability.
The tutorial component of the course engages students in Problem-Based Learning (PBL) to gain experience addressing real sustainability challenges in diverse working groups. The tutorials are lead by Teaching Assistants (1 TA per tutorial section).
Responsibilities of the Tutorial Coordinator for SUST 2000:
1.ÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌý Develop tutorial activities and materials in partnership with course instructor(s) and TAs. Respond to feedback from TAs with innovative ideas and tutorial activities.
2.ÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌý Develop, monitor and maintain the Brightspace website for the course, including creation and maintenance of the grade book, posting of assignments and other course material, and setting up, monitoring and managing assignment rubrics and drop boxes.
3.ÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌý Monitor TA grading for consistency; consult with Instructor(s).
4.ÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌý Deliver the information session for Teaching Assistants during the first week of class.
5.ÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌý Prepare the agenda for and chair weekly TA meetings throughout the semester.
6.ÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌý Review and address challenges faced by TAs in their tutorials.
7.ÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌý Assist TAs with issues arising from group work, including dealing with the challenges of team assignments.
8.ÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌý Assist instructor(s) to develop and maintain a resource list/library of "best practices" for tutorials.
9.ÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌý Develop and implement a strategy for early intervention to identify struggling students, in consultation with the instructor(s).
10.ÌýÌýÌý Review TA Hours Tracking Spreadsheets monthly through end of term; in consultation with College of Sustainability Academic Advisor & Program Manager.
REQUIREMENTS OF POSITION: Successful applicants must be a graduate or professional student at ºÚÁϳԹÏÍø. Applicants must have experience and a background in a field related to Environment, Sustainability and Society and preferably experience with Problem Based Learning as an approach to guiding undergraduate students through team-work solutions-oriented exercises. Familiarity with Brightspace Online Learning System is an asset; training is available.
