POSITION: Part-Time Academic
DEPARTMENT/LOCATION: Department of Russian Studies
PAY RATE: As per CUPE Collective Agreement

COURSE INFORMATION: RUSN 1070: Modern Russian Culture and Civilization
Winter Term 2018-2019 (January 1, 2019 – April 30, 2019)
Currently Scheduled: TR 13:05-14:25

WORK ASSIGNMENT: The class will be conducted in English and fulfills the second half of a writing requirement. The Part-Time Academic will be responsible for all aspects of teaching and administering the class, including adherence to the Writing Requirement Class Guidelines, admission, lectures, test and assignment preparation, evaluation, supervising Teaching Assistants, and electronic submission of grades. Three class hours per week, plus hold weekly office hours. The Part-Time Academic reports to the Chair of the Department.

REQUIREMENTS OF POSITION: Applicants should possess a graduate degree or other academic and/or professional qualifications deemed suitable for teaching the class. A background in twentieth century Russian culture and civilization, History/Literature is preferred. Competence in teaching techniques in English composition is required. Previous teaching experience at the post-secondary level would be an asset.

RUSN 2051: Survey of Russian Literature I – September 1, 2018 – December 31, 2018
Currently scheduled: TR 14:35-15:55

RUSN 2052: Survey of Russian Literature II – January 1, 2018 – April 30, 2018
Currently scheduled: TR 16:05-17:25

WORK ASSIGNMENT: The class will be conducted in English with a section taught in Russian for majors and fulfills a writing requirement when RUSN 2051 is taken in combination with RUSN 2052. The first term will cover on overview of Russian literature from its beginnings through Tolstoy, and the second term will cover Chekhov to the present. The Part-Time Academic will be responsible for all aspects of teaching and administering the class, including adherence to the Writing Requirement Class Guidelines, admission, lectures, test and assignment preparation, evaluation, and electronic submission of grades. Three class hours per week, plus hold weekly office hours. The Part-Time Academic reports to the Chair of the Department.

REQUIREMENTS OF POSITION: Applicants should have native or near-native fluency in English and Russian and possess a graduate degree or other academic and/or professional qualifications deemed suitable for teaching the class. A background in literature, and previous experience teaching in Russian at the post-secondary level would be an asset.
