POSITION: TA45 (Teaching Assistant, one term, 45 hours)

WORK PERIOD: February-April 2018

DEPARTMENT/LOCATION: Faculty of Science / Integrated Science / Psychology

PAY RATE: According to C.U.P.E. agreement

WORK ASSIGNMENT: Support the first-year writing and research project component of the Integrated Science program. Supervise a team of two first-year students conducting a laboratory research project in Psychology or Neuroscience. Mark several individual written assignments: a research proposal, annotated bibliography, topic sentence outline, and two drafts of a formal research paper. Provide extensive feedback on written papers and return marked assignments within one week. Follow the Integrated Science writing class guidelines. Meet with students to discuss their work. Run tutorials to provide guidance to the Integrated Science class on preparation of team posters and presentations. Mark and provide extensive written feedback on drafts of poster presentations and slides for oral presentations. Attend and evaluate the presentations.

REQUIREMENTS OF POSITION: Graduate degree in Psychology or Neuroscience completed or in progress. Relevant research experience in the specific topic of the team research, and an interest in teaching scientific writing and research skills are essential. Previous teaching experience, supervising research or evaluating formal writing, is an asset. Previous experience with an integrated science program is an asset.
