POSITION: Part-Time Academic for ERTH 1060.03 – Natural Disasters for the 2017/2018 winter term. The course runs from January 9th to April 10th, 2017 with the exam period continuing until April 26th, 2017. However, this PTA position also includes a restructuring of the homework exercises for the course during the Fall 2017 semester. Class enrolment varies between 220 and 450 students.

DEPARTMENT/LOCATION: Department of Earth Sciences, Halifax Campus

PAY RATE: In accordance with CUPE Agreement Local 3912

WORK ASSIGNMENT: We seek a geoscientist who will (i) with the course instructor, develop ten homework exercises, most which will use GoogleEarth® to measure or interpret landscape elements to demonstrate important concepts in natural hazards; those exercises will be hosted and graded by an online learning management system such as Brightspace; (ii) test run and finalize those exercises and their instructions and support materials by December 1 2017; (iii) introduce the assignments to the class and assist undergraduates in their completion of the assignments during the winter semester; (iv) post all grades for the course (quizzes, exercises, exams) using Brightspace; (v) assist in lectures; (vi) proof-read and proctor two mid-term tests and one final exam; and (vii) efficiently respond by email or in person to assist students with questions regarding the course.

REQUIREMENTS OF POSITION: Minimum of B.Sc. in Geology or Earth Sciences with relevant expertise and teaching experience.
