Friday, December 12, 2014 from 12:00 to 1:00 pm in room 2616 of the Killam Library.Ìý
Although the Department of Psychology & Neuroscience offers several different versions of our 1st year introductory course, until recently we have not had an option for students to cover the material unless they were available to attend class on campus.
Over the past 6 years, we have been working on amending our content for online delivery and now have an online version of our first half of the full year requirement, PSYO 1031, Introduction to Psychology & Neuroscience – Online.
This new offering is modeled from our other courses, but also includes unique features. We recorded mini-lectures (no longer than 20 minutes in length), called Tricky Topics, that were developed from topics students had difficulty with in our traditional live course (PSYO 1011). We also included engaging chapter openers to start each lesson and student discussion forums to take the material beyond the textbook.
This course also includes a comprehensive laboratory component, where students get to participate in psychology demonstrations and activities; to our knowledge, this online lab component is the first of its kind in Canada for Introductory Psychology. We hope to share some of our challenges, hurdles, and triumphs with others who are interested in developing online materials for distance learning.Ìý
