They came, they explored, they got a glimpse of where their parents or guardians spend their 9-to-5.

Dal's Faculty of Science invited Grade 9 children of faculty and staff to campus Nov. 6 as part of听, offering them a range of activities to get a closer look at what a day in the life at Dal is like. The verdict: it can be a very different experience depending on your job.听

Students toured some of the Faculty鈥檚 core facilities, including the eighth-floor greenhouse in the Life Sciences Centre (LSC), the battery labs in the Sir James Dunn Building, and the Aquatron, while also visiting Dr. Sherry Stewart鈥檚 (MAAC) Lab and taking part in a DNA extraction activity led by volunteers from the Dal chapter of .

After refueling with pizza during a lunch-and-learn presentation from , students spent the afternoon in sessions organized by Heather Fraser of Information Technology Services (ITS), touring the data centre and MedIT鈥檚 home in the Tupper Building, before participating in a patient-care simulation at the Collaborative Health Education Building. The day concluded with a leadership talk from Kareina Cadel, Dal鈥檚 manager of student experience.

鈥淚t was a very busy but very successful day,鈥 says Sinmi Ayantoye, the Faculty of Science鈥檚 outreach manager who led the planning for the event. 鈥淲e鈥檙e grateful to all our partners from across Dal who stepped up to lead activities and welcome our visiting students. Hopefully we鈥檒l see them at Dal again in a few years!鈥
