The latest edition of a summer tradition that has continued for more than 40 years, takes place on Dalhousie’s Agricultural Campus on Thursday, July 21 (10 a.m. - 2 p.m., rain or shine).

The event (previously known as Community Open House) opens up the campus members of the broader community for a glimpse of the history, current activities and future impact of the work done in Faculty of Agriculture.

The event is open to all (and all ages), and includes activities ranging from rides on classic hay wagons to information sessions to a lunchtime barbecue.

Several exhibits will showcase the depth and variety of the research conducted by faculty and students. Community Day attendees can learn about haskap berries, bees, Christmas trees, common garden weeds, maple syrup, beer-making, pet care and animals ranging from shellfish to dairy cows.

Community Day also includes an information session for students who may one day conduct research of their own at the Agricultural Campus. The Prospective Student Information Session (1 p.m. in the MacRae Library) will feature insights about academic programs, residence and studying abroad, among many other topics.

There will also be plenty of fun in store for younger children, who can play amongst the hypo-allergenic bubbles in the Bubble Barn, get their face painted and give their teddy bears needed repairs at the Teddy Bear Clinic.

A performance from the Truro Drum Runners (Alumni Garden Gazebo (9). 11 a.m.) and a demonstration from dog handler Fred Hamilton and his canine friends help round out the all-ages entertainment. Hungry appetites will meet their match with chicken, hamburgers, hot dogs served hot off the grill for purchase at lunch, along with gluten-free and vegetarian options.
