Inspiration and Impact: Video highlights

- June 30, 2015

Last week, during his presentation at the "Inspiration and Impact: Our First Year" events, President Richard Florizone shared five video clips demonstrating how Dalhousie's students, faculty and staff bring the university's Strategic Direction to life.

With the presentations now complete, we're sharing the videos here on Dal News. Each highlights a story from one of the five themes in the Strategic Direction: Teaching and Learning, Research, Service, Partnership and Reputation, and Infrastructure and Support.

Teaching and Learning: Medical Sciences program

Dalhousie's Medical Sciences undergraduate program, launched fall 2015, is a great example of how Dal's course offerings are growing to meet the needs and interests of students. The program has not only proven immensely popular, but had a 100% retention rate within the university.

Research: Zebrafish Core Facility

As a comprehensive research institution, ºÚÁϳԹÏÍøengages researchers in all stages of their career in discovery and innovation, from students to faculty. A great example is the Zebrafish Core Facility, which opened in our Life Sciences Research Centre in November 2014, and which researches cures for rare childhood diseases.

Service: ºÚÁϳԹÏÍøCommerce Society

The spirit of volunteerism can be seen across Dal: faculty with their professional organizations; staff who are part of efforts like United Way campaign and in our students. Among the most successful groups on campus at embodying that spirit is the ºÚÁϳԹÏÍøCommerce Society, which from Movember to the Inside Ride for cancer is unwavering in its commitment to community.

Partnership and Reputation: projectDal

Dalhousie's success depends on partnerships on many fronts, including with alumni and donors. This year, External Relations is launching a new tool to make it easier than ever for supporters to contribute to the student experience: a crowdfunding site called "projectDal."

Infrastructure and Support: Halifax Grounds Crew

Dalhousie's mission is only made possible by our people, and some of our people who earned high praise during the winter of 2015 was the Grounds Team in Halifax. Their efforts during a challenging winter storm season received rave reviews from across the Dal community and the city more broadly.
