Women’s Basketball
The women’s basketball team hosted the Subway Centennial Tournament this past weekend at Dalhousie. The Tigers played Carleton University on Friday evening. Robbi Daley led the Tigers with 17 points.
The Tigers faced the UQAM Citadins on Saturday night. Their ball control was subpar to start the game and they had seven turnovers in the first quarter alone. The Tigers relied on their solid shooting and led the Citadins 23-15 after the first quarter. The next two quarters saw Dalhousie’s offense sputter, but solid defensive play and poor shooting from UQAM kept them in the game.
The game came down to the final possession and when Dalhousie’s entry pass to the wing was nearly picked off, Tessa Stammberger grabbed the ball and swung it to Robbi Daley, who was wide open on the three-point line and sunk the shot to put the Tigers up 57-55 with 0.7 left on the clock. The Tigers would hold on for the win.
On Sunday they took on the Saint Mary’s Huskies. Although the Tigers held last year’s CIS Player of the Year Justine Colley to just five points, they simply couldn’t recover from a 22-9 deficit after the first quarter. Tessa Stammberger was named a tournament all-star after leading the team with 17 points.
