This past weekend the men’s volleyball team hosted the UBC Thunderbirds in exhibition play and the women’s and men’s cross country teams headed to New Brunswick for the Moncton Invitational meet.
Volleyball
Sunday brought forth the first challenge of the year for the men’s volleyball team, facing a very respectable UBC team. The black and gold came out tough and forcefully took the first set. After dropping the next two sets, Dal came from behind to claim the final sets and the victory. Set scores were: 28-26, 21-25, 14-25, 25-22, 15-13.
The second match, held on Thanksgiving Day, proved equally as exciting. Winning some crucial long rallies, the Tigers once again pulled off the 3-2 comeback against the Thunderbirds. Kenneth Rauwerda led the way with 15 kills, Bryan Duquette posted 13 digs, and Robbie Johnson had 45 assists. Set scores were: 25-20, 17-25, 23-25, 25-21, 15-11.
Next up for the men’s team is an exhibition match against UNB on Tuesday, October 11. The home opener will take place on Saturday, November 19 vs MUN.
Cross country
Looking to grab possession of first place in the AUS standings the women’s and men’s cross country teams took to the course in Moncton.
Mouhcine Aitounejjar was Dalhousie’s fastest runner for the men, coming in seventh place with a time of 27 minutes and 59 seconds, roughly a minute off the lead time. The team finished second in the men’s meet. Britany MacArthur, Ellen Chappell, and Hannah Walker all finished in the top 10 in the women’s race.
The cross country teams compete again Saturday, October 15 in the ºÚÁϳԹÏÍøInvitational meet at Point Pleasant Park. The women start at 12pm, while the men race at 12:45pm.

Don’t miss one of the most anticipated home openers this fall! Men’s hockey kicks off their regular season this Friday, October 14 at 7 p.m. against STU. Students will have the chance to win $5,000 in the Molson Shoot for Tuition event. Dal promotions staff will be giving away FREE Tigers t-shirts and cowbells. If you are unable to make the home opener, come out to Saturday’s game against UdeM at 7 p.m.
The Subway Centennial Basketball Tournament is taking place at Dalplex October 14-16. Teams participating include Guelph, MSVU, and SMU. A complete tournament schedule can be found . The men’s basketball team will be taking on McGill on Friday, October 14 and UQAM on Saturday, October 15 in exhibition play. Both games take place at 8pm.
Wickwire Field will host the women’s and men’s soccer teams this Saturday, October 15 as they take on StFX. The women kick off at 1pm and the men follow directly after at 3:15pm.
The swim team is hosting the Dal Alumni Challenge Friday, October 14 at 6pm and the Dal Relay Meet Saturday, October 15 at 3pm. Both events will take place at Dalplex.
