Dal teams get trumped

- April 12, 2010

Team Dynamic organized a polar bear dip as afundraiser for Trumpeds first task.

The spirit of competition spurred Dal students Mike and MattBrouwer, Tara Clucas and Josh Herman to dash into the frigid wavesat Lawrencetown Beach in mid-February.

But in the end, despite raising lots of money for the CanadianCancer Society, it wasnt enough for them to claim thecoveted briefcasethe top prize in the 2010 TrumpedCompetition. After spending the year at Dalhousie, the briefcasewas turned over to the top team, JK Morgan (Jason Kay, MorganMacKinnon) from Saint Marys University.

A hybrid between TVs The Apprentice andDragons Den, Trumped is a business-orientedcompetition offering real-world experience through a series ofthree tasks: organizing a fundraiser for the Canadian CancerSociety; creating a marketing campaign for the locally ownedHamachi Group; and developing in-store tastings for MolsonCanadian, Molsons signature beer.

Hosted by Saint Marys Development Centre, the competitioninvolved more than 200 university students and 67 teams in theearly stages.

If youre a business student, its a greatcapstone to a university undergraduate degree, explains LeahSkerry, Trumpeds project manager. Its applyingwhat youre learning while youre learningit.

Its more real-life than most of the classes wetake, explained Dal commerce student Mike Brouwer before heand the rest of Team Dynamic embarked on their final task.

But its crazy time consuming色 addedMatt Brouwer, also in commerce.

再nd so much fun. After we did the polar bear dip,we were just exhausted, and kind of crashed, said Mike, picking up the thread. We saw ourselves on two different TVstations and we raised almost $9,000 for a really good cause. Its been really cool.

Second place went to Cassidy Quinton and Nicole Myles from MountSaint Vincent University and third place went to the Dalhousietream 18 Litre ProductionsChris Gott, Linden Matties, JesseMawhinney and Sarah Reidlinger. Team Dynamic placed fourth.
