Tara Kean’s desire to make a difference has taken her from her hometown of Hornby Island, B.C., to Dalhousie’s dentistry program and even Africa, through her participation in last year’s Interprofessional Tanzania Study Tour.

“I always wanted to go to Africa and to be able to do it as part of my studies at ϳԹmade it even more meaningful,” explains Ms. Kean. “It really was life changing — I came back a different person.”

Ms. Kean is well respected by her peers and faculty and was the 2006 recipient of the Network for Oral Research Training and Health Studentship. In 2006 and 2007 she completed Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery electives at Harvard University and Columbia University. Her research has been published and presented at scientific conferences.

She has really enjoyed the program and the hands-on approach ϳԹoffers. An avid rower and marathoner, Ms. Kean lives her passion to learn new things and always challenge herself to achieve new heights in all aspects of her life.

Ms. Kean will soon be moving to Vancouver, joining a general practice residency program through the University of British Columbia, where she will spend the year in hospitals, community clinics and an outreach clinic in Vancouver with a couple months in rural practice in the Queen Charlottes.
