Emerging talent

- May 11, 2007

One of Dalhousie's librarians has received a prestigious national award. Ian Colford, Assistant University Librarian, Collections, has been awarded a $10,000 Canada Council Writing and Publishing grant to work on his novel-in-progress, The Lives of Hector Tomas. This is Ian's fifth $10,000 grant as an "emerging writer." Only two other Nova Scotian writers - Sue Goyette and Heather Jessup - were awarded grants this year.

Ian's short stories have been published in many literary journals and anthologies, most recently in Transits: Stories From In-Between, released this month by Invisible Press. His own short story collection Evidence is slated for publication in 2008 by Porcupine's Quill Press. Two of the 13 stories have already appeared in The Antigonish Review and Grain.
