Teaching Assistants and Markers

The following chart describes the two types of teaching support positions employed in the Faculty of Computer Science: Markers and Teaching Assistants.




Teaching Assistants (TAs)

Valid use of time:

  • may interact with students
  • run labs and tutorials
  • administrative meetings
  • assessment testing and development
  • technology training
  • additional support
  • do not usually interact with students
  • evaluate student work product
  • edit closed captioning
  • attend coordination meetings


Hours

Fixed hours-per-term packages set by the collective agreement: 25 hours, 35, 45, 65, 90, 110, or 130 Non-binding and unlimited Ìý

Ratio guidelines

20 to 60 students per TA, depending on duties and TA experience 1.5 to 2 hours/student/term

Pay
