Dr. Nicole Jordan is an artist of the world: Canadian-raised but born in Trinidad and Tobago, she made her career in Europe as a vocalist, creator, and academic. In 2021, after a long career in The Netherlands, she returned to her beloved hometown of Halifax.

Dr. Jordan has performed internationally in opera and oratorio. She had her solo debut at the Royal Danish Opera in Gershwin’s, Porgy and Bess (2014) and with Concerto Copenhagen in Purcell’s Dido and Aeneas (2012), however her passion has always been for chamber music and song repertoire. Dr. Jordan has performed and recorded with several chamber ensembles including the Doelen Ensemble (NL), The Harp Consort (UK), and the Canadian Chamber Choir (CAN), to name but a few. Ìý

A versatile vocalist, Dr. Jordan explores the boundaries of her instrument with techniques ranging from coloratura soprano to spoken word. She has created several new interdisciplinary music theatre productions that present classical repertoire in new ways, often incorporating her Caribbean heritage and crossing artistic boundaries to include dance, literature, poetry, visual art, and film. In 2019 she released an experimental pop album Jab Jab with her project band, Dr. Jordan Institute. For this, she was selected as a Spotlight Artist by the Dutch Performing Arts society. The Institute will release their second album, Siren, in 2023. Ìý

Since 2019, Dr. Jordan has provided vocals for films and video art installations throughout Europe. Her own latest project, ‘Lockdown Baby’ (2021) is a documentary-art film that tells of her personal experience of being pregnant during the COVID-19 pandemic. It has been presented at several international film festival and has won Best Women Empowerment Short at the Florida Short Film Festival (Summer 2022), and Exceptional Merit Documentary at the WRPN Women’s International Film Festival (2022).

Alongside performing, teaching, and recording, Dr. Jordan advises on equity, diversity, inclusion and accessibility in the arts.
