Donald Ellsworth MacLean – 77, Bible Hill, passed away suddenly Thursday, December 29, 2016, at home. Born in Truro July 20, 1939, he was the oldest son of Jack Ellsworth and Ada Armour (Retson) MacLean.
Don worked at the Nova Scotia Agricultural College farm from 1959 to 1994. After retirement, he devoted his time to family and friends, particularly his grandchildren.
Don is survived by his wife, Elizabeth (MacDonald) MacLean; children, Nancy (Malcolm) McLean, Springville and their children, Eric and Hannah; Greg MacLean (Diane Standing), Salmon River; Janice (Paul) MacIsaac, Greenfield, and their children, Chelsea and Noah; and Julie (Mark) Nicholson, Wylie, Texas and their son Alex. Don is also survived by siblings, Johnny (Karen) MacLean, Sally Archibald and Robert (Marilyn) MacLean and several nieces, nephews and in-laws. He was predeceased by his parents and his brother Gerald (Jerry) MacLean.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Mattatall Varner Funeral Home, 55 Young Street, Truro. There will be no visitation by request. A Celebration of Life will be held 2 p.m. Sunday, January 8 in St. David’s United Church, Bible Hill, Reverend Donna Lawrence officiating, with reception to follow in the church hall. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in memory of Don to a charity of your choice.
