Dr. Peter Tyedmers
of ºÚÁϳԹÏÍø, Halifax campus will be speaking on the Environmental benefits of local food: mechanisms, contexts and limitations.ÌýÌý

Peter Tyedmers
is an ecological economist whose research explores questions related to the scale of human system dependence on ecosystem services and productivity, the environmental implications of technological substitutions and the biophysical sustainability of food production systems.

Ongoing research interests include the energy performance of capture fisheries globally and identifying opportunities to reduce the resource dependence and improve the environmental performance of food production systems.Ìý Recent projects with students and colleagues have employed life cycle assessment (LCA) to evaluate the environmental implications of salmon fishing and farming systems globally, lobster fisheries, the Antarctic krill fishery, alternative dairying systems, and Nova Scotia wine and apple production and distribution systems.

Other current projects explore the relative importance of pollinators and other inputs in agricultural systems.

Peter is a Professor and Director of the School for Resource and Environmental Studies at ºÚÁϳԹÏÍø in Halifax, Nova Scotia.
